Local & Global Partnerships

GlobalResolve, an international service learning program at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University, started in 2006 as a social entrepreneurship program designed to enhance the educational experience for ASU students by involving them in real-world projects that positively impact communities with need around the world. Our relationship with GlobalResolve is directly due to our collaborator, BERP.

ASU students make a difference! Their involvement in the creation of wonderful additions to Rochelle’s Garden was fabulous as was the refurbishment of our propagation workshop, below.

Local & Global Partnerships

Biocultural Education and research programme.
The Biocultural Education and Research Programme was established officially in 2018 to promote the conservation of plant biodiversity in Barbados through education and research. The nonprofit organization is managed by a board and executive committee headed by Dr Sonia Peter, Chemist and Ethnobotanist practitioner.
With similar aims in respect to the protection and promotion of local plants, and the connection of these to our histories, BERP and Andromeda Botanic Gardens collaborate with activities in the Andromeda Ethnobotanical Garden (AEB). This amazingly beautiful space is the location and resource for many of BERP’s courses and workshops, and its newest development if the African Connections Garden.

Royal Horticultural Society
Andromeda became a RHS partner garden in 2016, a status earned by gardens that have a high standard of planting and design. Andromeda Botanic gardens is the only RHS partner garden in the West Indies.

The Lovell Quinta Arboretum is twinned with Andromeda Botanic Gardens.

In 1948 Bernard Lovell and his wife Joyce were looking for a place to live in Cheshire…Sir Bernard Lovell’s aim was to collect one example of every tree and shrub listed in the then five volumes of W J Bean’s seminal reference work Trees and Shrubs Hardy in the British Isles that would grow and flourish in Cheshire…As the Arboretum was established plants were presented, donated and sourced from a wide range of places, a number being used as features to mark major events in Sir Bernard’s life. He was also meticulous in keeping records including hand drawn plans and a card index for each plant.
